Kalaam Privacy Policy

Summary

Picture communication, bundled speech audio, typed speech, parent voice recordings, custom symbols, and communication history are designed to stay on the device unless a parent chooses to share something through the operating system.

Information Kalaam Handles

Kalaam may store the following information locally on the device:

• Selected app language.
• Communication words and sentence-bar contents.
• Recently typed phrases.
• Word usage counts used to make common words easier to reach.
• Parent-created custom categories and custom symbols.
• Photos selected by a parent for custom symbols.
• Voice recordings created by a parent for familiar voice playback.
• Local premium unlock state.

Speech And Audio

Kalaam includes bundled MP3 speech files for picture-card taps. These files are part of the app and play locally.

For typed speech, Kalaam uses the device or platform text-to-speech service available on the phone or tablet. Kalaam is designed to prefer voices that do not require a network connection when the platform provides that information. Voice quality and availability can vary by device, operating system, installed voices, and selected language.

Parent voice recordings are saved locally on the device. They are not uploaded by Kalaam.

Photos And Custom Symbols

Parents may use the camera or photo library to create familiar custom symbols. Those images are stored locally on the device. Kalaam does not upload custom photos.

Purchases

Premium purchases are processed by Apple App Store or Google Play. Kalaam may store local purchase or unlock status so premium features can be enabled after a purchase or restore.

Sharing

Kalaam may allow parents to share or export app-generated content through the device's built-in share sheet. When a parent chooses to share, the selected content is handled by the destination app or service the parent selects.

What Kalaam Does Not Do

• Kalaam does not sell personal information.
• Kalaam does not use child communication content for advertising.
• Kalaam does not include third-party analytics in the current release plan.
• Kalaam does not require a Kalaam account.
• Kalaam does not upload parent voice recordings, typed speech, or custom photos in the current release plan.

Permissions

• Microphone: lets a parent record familiar voice overrides.
• Camera: lets a parent create custom symbols from new photos.
• Photo library: lets a parent choose existing photos for custom symbols.

Deleting Data

Parents can delete custom content in the app where deletion controls are available. Deleting the app from the device also removes local app data managed by the operating system.
